Just a few more days

Jinx is due on January 1st. Predicting whelping date is not exact, but it is pretty close. Jinx could have her babies a day or two before, or after, this date. We are watching her very closely. All is fine. Babies are very active and we can feel them moving around; there are lots of little kicks and bumps going on. We don't know for sure how many babies she is having, but her size and weight gain (1120g so far) suggest she may have 4-5 puppies. Only time will tell. Just a few days to go.

Merry Christmas

Hope you and your families have a wonderful and special day. Jinx is spending a quiet day at home. Jinx is still active and playing, but spends more time resting now. Her belly is very full and round which limits her activities a bit. As of today, Jinx has gained 955g. Only 1 week to go.

2 weeks to go

Only two weeks left (or so). We spent the weekend setting up a nursery for Jinx. She has a cozy quiet and private spot in the corner of my office. Over the next week Jinx will begin to have naps and rest times in the nursery, by the time the puppies arirve she will be completely comfortable in "her" spot.

How many?

No way to know how many puppies there may be right now, but one way you can guess along with us is to monitor weight gain. From breeding to full term, Jinx may gain in the range of 250g to 300g (about 8-10 oz) for each puppy that she is carrying. As of today, Jinx has gained 635g in all. We are weighing in grams rather than ounces as that is how the puppies will be weighed when they are born.

Time flies

The first 5-6 weeks of a pregnancy have very few outward signs. Jinx is nearing the end of her second trimester so there will be much more news in the next three weeks. Last week's morning sickness has given way to a ravenous appetite and she is now putting on weight, as much as a few ounces daily. Her meals are supplemented with extra protein from her favourite meats (Llama and Bison).

About Dad

Yup's Cohiba Esplendido, "Coby" is a gorgeous 5 year old Black Belton Havanese. He is show championed in both the US and Canada. Coby is fully health tested. He is an experienced "Dad" with several offspring, many that have inherited his zest for life and his good looks. We think Coby and Jinx will make some special babies.

About Mom

Jinx is a show championed 4 year old purebred CKC/AKC registered Havanese. She has passed all the health tests recommended for Havanese plus a few extra. Jinx is 9&3/4 inches tall and weighs 10 pounds. She is a black/silver/white tricolour with an exquisite silky coat. She is a fun loving, sweet natured little dog with a fetish for toys. She loves to play (especially fetch). Squeaky toys are her favourite. If you followed the blog for our 2010 litter "Sensation", you already know what beautiful puppies Jinx produces. Can't wait to see what this litter brings.

Mimosa - Winter litter
